Dr. Bennett is a Georgia native whose enthusiasm for medicine began at Clark College in 1976 where he graduated summa cum laude. After receiving his medical degree from Duke University in 1979, Dr. Bennett attended Emory University, where he completed an internship in surgery and a residency in urology. His enthusiasm continues today through the establishment of a urology practice providing quality health care.

Honored as the National Medical Association Practitioner of the Year, Dr. Bennett is an activist in the treatment and education of prostate cancer. He was the first Georgia urologist to perform cryosurgical abalation of the prostate. He also created an educational film featuring Dr. Louis Sullivan entitled "Prostate Cancer in Black Men," which has been used nationwide by the American Cancer Society. Dr. Bennett's video credits include "The Next River to Cross", narrated by Les Brown, as well as, "Prostate Cancer" which was narrated by Sydney Poitier.

Dr. Bennett gained recognition for his innovative research in an April 2002 article in the Atlanta Tribune entitled "Battling Killer with Cutting Edge Research." Black Enterprise named Dr. Bennett as one of America's leading African-American doctors in August 2001. In addition, he received the Buddy Childers Award from the Georgia Prostate Cancer Coalition in September 2001 for his outstanding efforts in the battle against prostate cancer.

Dr. Bennett is clinically affiliated with Emory University and Morehouse School of Medicine and serves as co-director of the Department of Urology at Shepherd Center. He is the author of many medical articles on urologic topics and often conducts symposia in the medical field. Dr. Bennett's research endeavors include clinical trials generated by the National Institutes of Health and pharmaceutical companies as well as "in-house" studies designed and managed by Midtown Urology's Division of Medical Research.

Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgery, Dr. Bennett holds several additional academic honors and ranks. He is Clinical Associate Professor of Urology at Emory School of Medicine, Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at Morehouse School of Medicine, as well as Assistant Medical Director at Crawford Long Hospital of Emory University. Dr. Bennett formerly served on the Board of Trustees at Clark Atlanta University. He was appointed Commissioner by then-Governor Roy E. Barnes to the State of Georgia's Commission on Men's Health.

Jenelle E. Foote, M.D., F.A.C.S. Jenelle E. Foote, M.D., F.A.C.S.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgery, Dr. Foote continues to be a pioneer in medical research of female urology and sexual dysfunction. A native Ohioan with a passion for medicine, she received her undergraduate degree from Duquesne University in 1978. After earning her Medical Doctorate from Temple University School of Medicine in 1984, Dr. Foote met internship and primary residency requirements in surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. She completed her residency in urology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Dr. Foote also completed a fellowship in female urology, incontinence, and reconstructive surgery at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Los Angeles.

In addition to her academic background, Dr. Foote gained recognition in a 2002 article in Women in Medicine magazine, as well as being named one of Atlanta Magazine's "Best Docs" in 1999. Dr. Foote was also featured in the Atlanta Tribune article "Savy Doctor Battles Incontinence in Women" and in 2001, Black Enterprise named Dr. Foote as one of the "Top African-American Doctors in the United States."

With special expertise in female urology and urinary incontinence, Dr. Foote is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Morehouse School of Medicine and Emory University. She is also an active staff urologist at Shepherd Center. Dr. Foote has served as principal investigator for several urologic research studies and has published numerous articles and abstracts. She is a frequent speaker to both professional and lay groups.

Paul Alphonse Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Alphonse is a “New York to Florida transplant”and descendant of Haitian immigrants who began his enthusiasm for medicine in 1993 where he graduated Cum Laude in Biology from the University of Central Florida. After receiving his medical degree with “High Honors in Research” from the University of Florida, he finished his urology training at the prestigious Scott Department of Urology, Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Alphonse has been involved in many medical mission projects such as “C.H.O.R.E.S” (Grenada) and “Project Haiti”, which provide health, education and medical care to the underprivileged in developing countries.

In 2004, Dr. Alphonse joined the team of medical and research experts at Midtown Urology. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgery. Dr. Alphonse has been involved in many Men’s health initiatives including the Atlanta-based CHAMPS Men’s Health Fair, numerous community prostate screenings at local hospital, churches and clinics.

In 2005, Dr. Alphonse and Dr. Bennett published a peer review article in the “Prostate Cancer Quarterly” on Perineal Prostatectomy. Dr. Alphonse has also written articles on Erectile Dysfunction for the “The Atlanta Voice” and has been a recurrent featured guest on the nationally syndicated radio talk show, “The Michael Baisden Show”.

In such an early career, he has received numerous accolades and awards. The most notable are the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society Research Award, the 2006 Atlanta Medical Association Young Physician of the Year, and the 2008 University of Florida Most Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.

Dr. Alphonse was appointed member of the Board of Directors of the University of Florida Medical Alumni Association, the youngest and first African-American to hold such a position.

Dr. Alphonse treats a wide variety of urology, yet his professional interests include urinary stone disease, urological cancers, erectile dysfunction and infertility. Dr. Alphonse is a member of the following medical associations and societies:

Shauna Lyn, M.D.

Dr. Lyn is a native Texan whose passion for science and medicine began while earning a degree in biology from the University of Texas at Austin. She worked as a laboratory research assistant in molecular and cellular biology before earning a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. After completing a urology residency at the University of Texas Health Center at Houston, she worked as a private urologist in California and New York.

In 2003, she published Lange Smart Charts Physiology, a review book for medical students. That same year she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she completed a two-year fellowship in epidemiology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She joined the staff at Midtown Urology in November 2006 where she works both as a clinician and as a sub-investigator for Midtown Urology's numerous clinical trials.

Innocent Rukundo, P.A.-C.

Innocent Rukundo received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Professions with a certificate in Physician Assistant in 2006. From 2003-04 he served as the representative for the Kettering College of Medical Arts to the Student American Academy of Physicians Assistants.  

Since joining Midtown Urology in 2007, Innocent has played an integral role in patient care.  Innocent has been involved in several community outreach programs speaking on men’s health issues and participating in various health fairs.
